A tire-pressure light almost always means one of two things: an actual drop in pressure, or a sensor that's stopped reporting, often because its sealed internal battery has finally died. When does the sensor itself need to be replaced instead of just reset?

A sensor that keeps faulting on the same wheel position no matter which tire is mounted there is usually the clearest sign it's the hardware, not the tire.
Can I ignore the TPMS light if the tires look fine?
Not for long. A tire can lose a meaningful amount of pressure before it looks visibly low, and driving underinflated wears the shoulders of the tread faster and hurts fuel economy. It's worth checking the actual pressure the same day the light comes on, even if nothing looks wrong.
Will a new sensor need to be programmed to my car?
On most vehicles built in the last couple decades, yes. The sensor has to be paired to that specific car so the dash reads it correctly, and that happens as part of the replacement, not a separate visit.
Why does the light keep coming on and off with the weather?
Air contracts as it cools, so pressure that was fine on a warm afternoon can dip enough by early morning to trip the warning, then read normal again once things warm back up. If that's the pattern, it's usually a pressure issue rather than a failing sensor.
